How to prepare for a Thunderstorm
7/29/2019 (Permalink)
When a Thunder and Lightning storm roles into town, some of us run inside to the safety of your home or sit on the front porch to watch the storm clouds role in over the mountains. Thunder and lightning can quickly set a wildfire for example what happened at the Idaho National Laboratory facility on July 25th, 2019 in Southwest Idaho, which burnt 177 square miles. When lightning strikes it can pass through the wiring. This can cause damage to any electrical appliances that are plugged into outlets.
How to Prepare for a Thunderstorm
- Identify all close sturdy buildings close to where you live, work, and spend time.
- Keep trees clear of derby and dead branches that might fall on your home during a storm.
- Purchase surge protectors, lighting rods, or lighting protection system.
What to do in a Thunderstorm
- Move from outdoors into a building or car
- Pay attention to alerts and warning
- Unplug appliances
- Do not use landline phones
After a sever thunderstorm please make sure to watch for fallen power lines and trees.
